Well, this week we had to go get the Tern rafts from Belvedere Pond. There was a layer of ice over the pond and it hurt the knees to walk through the ice to get to the rafts. The rafts are there because there is a lack of offshore islands for Common Terns to nest on in the spring when they come back from South America. Their numbers are in decline in my area and we hope to help them out a bit. Unfortunately only one pair nested here this year so this is a lot of work for 2 birds haha. It was a lot of work to get the 2 rafts on shore. Tuesday we got one up. It was low tide and the raft got sucked into the mud. Took almost 2 hours to get it up on shore so we ordered a pizza and decided to wait and do the second one today. We did today when the tide was on the way in so that helped us out a lot. Only took 15 minutes and with minimal effort so I hope we do it in between tides again next fall. Other than that I have an exam tomorrow that I should do very well at. It's on mapping and I've proved to be quite capable in that area. One more week of classes and a class party then we're all done for the Holidays.
Happy Holidays everyone!!
