So for reasons of logistics and stupidity I didn't remove my airconditioners from two windows in my apartment this past Fall. Now it's minus 33 with windchill factor. It's freaking cold. When a plant freezes NEAR a window, it's probably a sign that you have insulation issues. *shiver*

I've been slowly trying to deal with the problem. First I taped over the top of the...

it is so odd that we have to deal with ac units and still spend half our lives freezing our knickers off and yeah a snowman icon would be great. if arch was not so busy I would create one and we could rule the world

Hawksley's latest album is really good. treeful of starling

yeah it was that look that helped provide the motivation for a second. surprisingly there are no photos of that pregnancy

last year our windows were reallydrafty, so we hung a couple wool blankets in front of them-- it made a huge difference.

I'm trying to figure out some good music to listen to while cleaning my apartment. It's taking me forever to get started. If I had it, I'd put on Psychocandy, but it's been years since I've had that album in my collection. It looks like it's going to be Shut Up and Die Like an Aviator. Nothing like Steve Earle's hillbilly grind to...

In the past, I've listened to stuff like Flogging Molly or Cake. (two VERY different musical styles) But lately I've bought a Duran Duran greatest hits compilation and since that music was all about dancing, it makes for PERFECT cleaning music. Good energy, nice rhythm, crank it up and go to it!

I do... smile
For some reason, I cannot explain, Game Theory puts me in a candy-pop house-cleanin' mood...

My apologies to those I've already spammed with this, but it's been making me feel really good.

Curtis Mayfield, "Keep On Keeping On"

I just realized I never mentioned that I got offered a lateral move at work a few weeks ago. Same pay. MUCH better working conditions. I'm dealing with commercial customers now. I'm in a different area of the office, different union and...

I've been thinking about the rich man, the camel and the eye of the needle lately. It seems to me that as I've gotten older and more comfortable (read: possessions not financial stability) that I feel more and more disconnected from the vital parts of life.

When I was poor and it was a struggle to feed myself and pay my bills, I remember spending...

Also, I heard a different version to aaronsrod. I heard that "camel" was a mistranslation for "camel hair" (= something you make brushes with) - I forget where.
Whence, it's not so easy for the rich; but not impossible.

I always try to live a simple life, I have money but I spend very little of it. I think you're right in your hypothesis there. It reminds me a bit of the film Citizen Kane. Where the dude had all the money in the world, surrounded himself with the most expensive lavish items, built a castle of a house, but in the end it all meant nothing. All that mattered was that little sled that reminded him of his youth and his family.

I think you've captured just the right sentiment there, especially for this time of the year. When people are busy running around buying each other expensive things trying to impress. I'll take a card and a hug over plasma tv anyday. smile

Two months later finds me with a peeling sunburn, depleted bank account and a case of mild depression, the last element a result of seeing surly again, then having to say goodbye to surly again.

Surly's mum organized a trip to Kauai for his family to be there for his dad's memorial. Surly's brother L arranged for a local fishing boat to take us out...

Hey. Been a while. Hopefully I'll be on the road tomorrow, but that's assuming everything goes right...

Sorry I didn't get to see you at Disneyland. I really wanted to go, but I wasn't invited...
frown Oh, well. Hopefully I'll get to meet you at some point whenever you move down here. We'll have a few beers and I'll wrestle SexyBeast in a miniskirt for your amusment.

That's just how I roll, y'herd?

I'm sorta taking a break from posting: new gaming addiction + feeling sorta maudlin=hermiting. I hope you are all doing well. I'm sure I'll be back to journaling at some point.

So a fairly laidback weekend.

My mom came over on Saturday night and we went out yesterday evening for Indian food for her birthday.

I gamed on Saturday. Yes, the first gaming session since we went on break for my gm's trip to LA Worldcon near the beginning of August, an entire month-long drought of no dice rolling. It felt great to be back. Speaking...

Holy crap, that was both scary and exhiliarating. I've never driven before, so I thought he'd find me a parking lot and let me play there. That's not what happened. The guy had me out in 4 lane traffic doing left turns. He told me he likes his students to get over their fear from the start. He sorta just throws you into it.

I...

Hm. I guess I agree with Cheech, to some extent.
I think the worrying thing (and where I part company from his wording, because it's not quite as simple as "not paying attention") is the way that people do not think about their vehicles and how they use them.
I suppose it's too much to expect people to think...

Just think, this could be you someday!

(ok I know, not exactly what you'd expect to see on SG - then again what fun is it to always do what people expect?)

haha good luck with that, it will really put your multi tasking skills to the test, should be a blast.

Five years ago today I was on the phone long distance with a former nyc firefighter/paramedic I was dating. I'd had a nightmare that I was at a funeral and I could hear my dead grandmother's voice wailing in ukrainian. I woke up at around 7:40 shaken, called him. I made him late for work. He worked in lower Manhattan near the trade centre. As...

I was at work. We had a TV for the cricket. I remember being dismayed by the instant assumption it was Arab/Muslim terrorists. I didn't watch much of it.

Honey, darling, love of my life...that film is pure conspiracy masturbation. I love how no one ever points out the grand irony that the most inept, awkward and braindead administration EVER was somehow able to pull off the most byzantine evil conspiracy in the world...and only the brave film makers are able to piece it together. The rest of us Americans are just 'tards apparently. You're marrying a 'tard.

I'm waaaaaaiting... waaaaaaaaaaaaiting for the Water Guy! Every few Saturdays I'm stuck in my apartment waiting for the dude to drop off my water bottles for my cooler. I always feel bad for the guy, hauling 19 litre bottles up three flights of stairs. Last time I tried to tip him, and he thought I was putting money on my account. I guess he rarely...

PS - I was at a conference this week and met with my friend (I think I can just about call him a friend by now), Gary, who lives and works in Thunder Bay. I asked him how far that was from Winnipeg, and he told me eight hours. He is going to maybe organise a conference at his place of work, Lakehead University, next fall, 2007. I told him I would come, f'sure, and could always go visit my friend in Winnipeg, although I guess you'll be in LA by then...
