Last month I took a trip with my friend Kassi to the Salton Sea. I dropped her off at her grandparents house and had the whole day to explore the area on my own. Since I've been to the Salton Sea a few years before, I wanted to go past the recreation area and Bombay beach and head down to slab city. I've always heard stories about how cool it was and the different vibe it gave off. When I got to salvation mountain I was in for one of the biggest disappointments ever. It was so crowded and full of tourists off of tour busses that I could not really enjoy it like I wanted. The artwork and mountain were impressive to see in person. The colors were vibrant and shined bright in the brown desert area. I'm thinking of going back again someday when it's not a huge tourist day so I can enjoy it the way I want to with less people.
On my way home I had to make the biggest and most important stop of my trip. When ever we went on family trips I would never get to stop at the places I wanted to because everyone had already been there or deemed them boring. Well this day I had to stop and see this place for myself. I stopped at the Cabazon Dinosaurs and was like a kid again. I couldn't stop reciting lines from pewee in my head, or thinking about the scene from the Whiz. This stop was definitely my favorite one and a lifetime bucket list item crossed off. I even walked up to the gift shop worker and said "Large Marge sent me". The person laughed and played along but did admit they hear it every day a few times and can't even keep the shirt with that saying in stock. I will definitely be back in that area for a Joshua Tree or Pionerr Town trip in the near future.
Next month I will be embarking on a solo trip up north to the tiny city of El Portal. From there I'll have a week to explore and do what ever I want to do. Maybe I'll end up in San Fran or Sacramento who knows. Below are some pictures from my last trip.
