So
it's been a while since I've checked in here for any length of time.

I could probably post some sort of life update or comment on current events but instead I'm gonna share this dream that I had the other day just because it was so vivid and ..well, it's just kinda stayed with me.

The first thing that I remember was walking down...

First off I think thanks are in order to everyone involved in putting on last nights Toronto gala namely Lucy, Cereal_killer and SPEEDPHREAK.
I couldn't get there till after midnight and unfortunatly missed all of the festivities and by which time I'm told that alot of people had cleared out. I was probably there for all of 5 minutes cause I felt really...

I saw that too! I was all stoked to see a new Western and I really dug Ghosts of the Civil Dead. I saw it at the Toronto International Film Festival last year and I stepped out before the Q&A began and who do I run straight into - Nick Cave.

Nick: Hey, aren't you coming to see my Q&A?
Jovanka: Well, yeah, uh, I planned on it, cuz I'm a huge fan and all but I have this other screening to get to and...
Nick: Don't worry about it, we can talk later.
Jovanka: Huh?
Nick: Here's my number, I'm having a party later at my hotel. Please come. It's by invite only.
Jovanka: Oh wow, I'd love to.
She extends her hand for a shake. Nick takes it and smiles.
Jovanka: Look it was great meetingyou, but I really gotta run, and you should get to your Q&A, there's a ton of people in there waiting for you.
Nick: Right.
Nick smiles and finally lets go fo her hand.
Jovanka: Loved the movie by the way.
She says as she turns to scurry off.
Jovanka: Oh, and you look great for your age!
Nick: Thanks, I think! (laughs) See you later love!

What the Hell was I thinking??!! "You look great for your age!!" And to top it all off - I DIDN'T GO TO HIS PARTY. I'm such a loser! I was worried that his party could consist of just two if ya know what I mean so I didn't go!!!

So that's my Nick Cave story. Thouht you might get a kick out of it. smile

oh yeah someone asked me about my branding so...

I just woke up to the sound of some remix of The Beatles - Day Tripper coming through my wall, it's such a catchy bass line that I had to get out of bed grab my bass, flick on my amp and learn it ...now I can go back to sleep ..or maybe I'll stay up and get to work early for once.

What are you up to for new years?
voile:
To be honest, I sorta kinda wish I had done that too. I haven't been "out" for new years in a long time, and I decided this new years I would head downtown. Myself and a few friends ended up at the Savage Garden... it wasn't too busy, which was nice. One friend ended up meeting some guy named Walter and then spent the rest of the night sucking his face off, while my other friend decided he was tired and hungry by 1230. When we FIIIINALLY left, we then stood around in the cold for an hour waiting for the Vomit Commet (heh I just heard that expression tonight and had to use it) on Yonge to shuttle us home... by this point the friend who had spent the evening with Walter was puking on the sidewalk, and the tired hungry one had a migrane. All the rest of the way home i divided my time between both... wishing fervently I had never gone out in the first place.

And now it is 530 am and I think I've just composed my next novel here so I'll stop. Hope your evening went better. wink

done for another year, x-mas, boxing day and most importantly all of the crap leading up to it, I was truly alone with my dog this year as my internet connection went down x-mas eve and the taking my dog for a walk on the 25th didn't really pan out cause it was raining here, but not to worry, all I had to do was...

X-mas
it's finally almost over, I have no problem with people who love it and enjoy the festivities but for me, there's nothing better than spending a peaceful x-mas day alone with my dog and that's exactly what I'm gonna do. now, I know that most people who end up alone on xmas arn't very happy about it and I understand that too but that's...

I'm beggining to understand that it is not acceptable for men my age to express ourselves sexualy, being male and almost 40 it inevitably just comes across as creepy somehow and that's just something I'm not prepaired to live with, being a "creep", or at least seen as one, I don't say this because I've had any complaints, but I have seen the reactions that...

msstabby:
maybe it's how you are expressing your sexuality more than the simple fact of expressing it.

Speaking for myself, when a man ages he is more attractive if his sexuality is sophisticated and multi-dimensional (ie, includes personality, artistic expression like you mentioned, etc) rather than juvenile/in-your-face.

Just my thoughts. Your mileage may vary. smile
sodome:
I know what you mean, but like you I (so far) experience it more as a sense of the general vibe than as a complaint directed at me. It's still unnerving. Odd to have such a disconnect between inner and outer realities. I'm deliberately redirecting energy to more creative pursuits too, but around sex my current tactics of choice are different than what you're describing.

If anything, I'm more overtly sexual these days, but I'm also making much more effort to let people know what I've learned over time. The experience that comes with age isn't much use unless it's communicated. Can't hurt to communicate (for example) that we've discovered:

- the value of letting intimate connections find their own pace; their own process & outcome; enjoying the ride wherever it goes.

- that it's worth asking for what you want, especially when it's scary to ask.

- that habits of honesty and respect come more easily with decades of practice

- that control and power aren't much fun without surrender & helplessness, and all of 'em are worth getting used to.

- that imaginative lechery and true perversion ripen with age smile

Even if it all gets read as creepy by some folks, maybe if we're loud and persistent long enough we'll raise the bar overall for what people around us will settle for in sex & relationships. Changing up the amount of time you're throwing into different interests sounds like change that'll make you happy. I don't know you well, but being too concerned about how a few folks misunderstand you doesn't sound like you; doesn't sound happy-making at all.

(edited to qualify some generalizations & to mention that I'm also enjoying a mostly solo Christmas; taking long walks through snowy streets I don't often get to see.)

Hope your new year rocks.
