Dear Blog,
I was just recently unfairly banned from one of the forum groups on this site. It was the Batman group. being on the internet I'm sure most of you know things are going great in the World of Batman fandom. I'm not just talking about the Batfleck controversy. They keep having "shock deaths" and other annoying stunts in the comics to boost sales of specific issues all of us knowing damn well they're just going to undo whatever "shocking" thing they did to grab headlines on nerd news sites. After less than 5 years they're already about to reboot the entire DC Universe to quell fan outcry over a vast array of things they've fucked up across all the franchises. On top of everything else they are letting the people who turned green arrow into a Dark murdering Batman wannabe that didn't even wear a mask until the second season and doesn't even call himself green arrow make a Batman show that doesn't even have Batman in it and is going to try to shoehorn in villains into the story while Bruce Wayne is still a child. Most of Batman rogues gallery didn't become criminals let alone Super villains until Bruce was a fully grown adult The show will have to throw the source material out the window just to maintain it's premise. Batman fans are obviously not as happy as Marvel fans right now.
for the past few months I've been posting some of the few good things that have happened in the world of Batman. Most of which is stuff about the upcoming Batman Arkham Knight game. I've also talked to a few people about some of the continuity issues in the comics I mention earlier in this blog. While I disagreed with some people It actually stayed civil which is remarkable considering it's this is the internet and DC fans moviegoers, nerd posers (who are mostly guys BTW) and have all been angrily arguing with each other for over a year now. I posted a comment on a thread about the "Gotham" TV show (the one that takes place when Bruce is 8 years old) about how dumb the premise is. Not going to lie it was an angry comment but it was directed at TV show not anyone in the group. The only other posts in the thread were links to news stories with little or no text beside the links about the show posted by the same person who like I said hadn't taken any strong stances on the show. The person posting the news stories starts shouting at me in all caps about how I'm "a wast of a username" and worthless and terrible person and only post negative comments (which isn't true I've posted plenty of positive comments). I respond by asking him if he's a writer for the show or something because there is no reason for a Batman fan to get angry at me for not wanting a show that goes out of it's way to be inaccurate to Batman canon. He shouts at me in caps lock about how my view of the continuity is too narrow how I'm an asshole and made a spelling mistake.
I know how these groups are moderated so I've tried to show restraint. He's calling me all kinds of names for a post I made criticizing the premise for a TV show. the worst I've done to him is snarly ask if he was associated with the show. None the less I sense passions are running high and group owners are often quick to ban people. I made what I intended to be my last post responding to him and was careful not to insult him and try to keep things on topic. I explained more in depth why the premise can't work and ending it with asking him how this show is supposed to appeal to fans. I was hoping he would defend his position and provide some explanation of how this show could work rather than just responding with insults and only insults. 2 days go by and I don't hear anything form the person. No one comments or posts anything on the entire Batman group. I thought that meant this had blown over. But then I get banned. No warning, no notice nothing. I find out about this on the third day because I notice when I went to my groups page I couldn't find the Batman group. I did a search and found the group listed but it wouldn't let me in.
I criticized a show. This other person took it personally apparently and started flaming me. I tried to defend without resorting to personal insults as best I could. I left after making two responses to them so it wouldn't drag into a long flame war. I ask whoever may be reading this did I really do anything worthy of being banned? If you think I may be too biased Go to the batman group and read the "Gotham" TV show and read them yourself. (I can't quote everything exactly because I can't even read the comments in question anymore).
I went to the help page and tried to ask if there is any way to appeal the group owners verdict but I'm not holding out any hope. For whatever it's worth I wasn't trying to cause any trouble. Was it really so beyond the pale to call out a show for being a cash grab that doesn't care about the source material in a fan group for said source material?
