Ok, let's update the world on me.
Update is a great word and I use it often. Go me.
Ok, so I came home for a few days for some uber medical stuff. Get excited it is NOT cancer!!!!! I feel a lot better knowing that it's not cancer or a variety of other horrible things my symptoms might have lead too.
It turns out I am full of ulcers. I have yet to decide if going through all the horrible horrible horrible tests and having to take off work without pay (I only have 1.75 days of leave, and I needed three days off and I have to save 3 days for San Diego Comic Con) was worth it. I'm guessing it was worth it because now I am getting on happy meds to help me from being sick every day. Healthy is good. I am going to get healthy, FINALLY.
But the tests were horrible. I have one more set of them tomorrow morning. Just to double check for one more possible problem.
Now, for a real question for the people of the world.
Autism, do you think it's caused by vaccines? I am unsure what I think about this. True, the recorded use of vaccines and autism are up, but are they really connected? I was watching that pilot of Eli Stone and thinking about what my boss was talking about in the office a week or so ago. Do you think there is a connection?

Also, there is a little boy in the 3rd grade that has decided he wants to be a girl. So his elementary school is putting in millions to retro fit some of the bathrooms to be coed, for therapists to come in and help the other kids understand what happened. I have included some links to articles about this topic.

I spend a lot of time on these blogs talking about me myself and I. Or about movies or TV shows I love. But these are two topics that have been bothering me for a long time. They are things I have been worrying about and thinking about for a while. Well, the autism one. The little boy in the 3rd grade came up at 4:45 AM when my mother was driving me to the hospital. I think she was trying to distract me. She really didn't need to, I was practically passed out, only had 3-4 hours of sleep that night and only 6 the night before.
But it did bring up a lot of questions for me. I was listening to Sirius radio and on came Carlos Mencia (yes, bare with me people). A comedian I am not overly fond of. But he actually brought up issues that I had to really take a second look at. He talked about spending extra money to put special needs kids in regular classes. Saying that it hurt the rest of the kids in the overcrowded underpaid schools for the teacher to spend more time with a special student.
I am very for (100%) kids with special needs being included in regular classes, but not at the expense of other children. Listen carefully to what I am trying to say. I believe that included special needs kids is benifital to both regular and special kids. I think it gives MR kids a fighting chance to learn more then just 'life skills' (which I am very against as a blanket teaching system). I think they deserve a chance to learn to read and write and do basic math. Not all kids with MR are high functioning enough to learn these, but how do we know unless we find a way to give them a chance. My brother amazes me on a daily basis. We fought tooth and nail to keep him in regular classes and not in life skills.
As for the 'regular kids' I think it does them wonders. I think it teaches them how to act around other people with MR's. I think it just makes them better people all around.
This being said, I understand that some kids can't be continuously included in regular classes. I know public schools are low on funds teachers and time. I know overcrowding is a problem. I don't know how to fix that problem, but I know denying these other kids a chance at 'normal', and denying the 'normal' kids a chance to grow more as people by being exposed to kids with special needs is not the answer.
Ok, so I am a bit soap boxy tonight and yes, I have undergone a lot today and may not be making much sense. But screw it. I am posting this despite my circular logic and inability to use facts or express myself.
I came, I talked about myself and then I actually tried to start a few actual conversations about important stuff. Stuff that has nothing to do with the presidential primaries. Cause I don't know anything about them.

vaccines and autism is bull. I was born with Autism. No way in hell you get it with a vaccine.
Good for you, all bringing up important issues about the world and it's various citizens. And here I just tend to talk about hamburgers, television, and the horrifically uneven balance between men and women in Los Angeles.
