Andra is almost 8 weeks old. The fields and beds are looking really good. We´ve had a bit of a problem with too much nitrogen in the soil, but we´ve seemed to have gotten around it. Juna and Liam are brown, filthy and happy. My oldest is here for the summer, so the kids are getting a lot of Big Brother time and the dock...

Wanted to post a few days ago, but was distracted by a baby. :) We got a good ground soaking rain for a couple of days. Water tanks are full again and the fields are beginning to sprout. More tilling to do and we´re hoping for some more sun and warmer temps. Then things should really take off.

@spiderman66 I've been in the southwest a year. Last year I planted things because I couldn't live without it, but after a summer of growing here, where it literally NEVER fucking rains, it just felt unsustainable to me. It still does. Part of why I didn't plant was instability of my living situation, but the other part was the fact that I felt like I was stealing life saving water from future generations just for fun.

@gadget - I know what you mean.  We lived in Burgundy a couple of years back and had a large garden.  Even with the winter rains, we´d manage to drain the well once or twice a month.  Luckily, there was enough ground water that it would refill in a couple of days.  In the Jura, the dry spells last a week or so and then we get another week or two of showers, so watering is more a short term solution.

I am going to go out on a limb here. The post has been shared on FB, with very modest response. The campaign was started by a young German fellow staying with us and working on the farm. Everyone has money problems, I know. But if you could donate 5€, or 1€ a week, or anything, it would be a massive help. Heck, throw caution...

Short summary. Liam turned 5 a month ago. Juna is now in her terrible twos and is cute terrorizing the farm. Baby X is due any day now and the contractions have started. The fields have been dry enough to get the sowing done and the seedlings are ready to go in the ground. Spring is in the air.
