the holidays are a reminder of those less fortunate...
i was in Bitung Indonesia a couple months ago and it is the definition of a 3rd world country... the children as young as 2 years old would come up and beg for money and food but as soon as you gave them any kind of money 8 more would swarm in... it came down to going to the local grocery store and buying groceries for the young kids... they would take them home to their families and soon you would see them back on the streets... no matter how sad it was the only thing we could do was buy groceries for the young kids...
I've tried looking for ways to help but when reading more into it there is no guarantee the money you are sending is really going to these families to help...
