I'd say pull the paneling and paint the walls -- but that's just me. And of course, you might just discover why they put paneling up -- big holes in the walls, etc. As for the cabinets/walls witht the glossy dark wood, there are products for working on that -- essentially solvents that dissolve the finish and rough it up much the way sanding does (and sanding is an option, too, of course -- but a lot of work). Just make sure it's really a finished wood and not some sort of vinyl covering or other synthetic.

thanks for the birthday wishes. it went better than i thought it would. i didn't do anything out of the ordinary, just dropped the kid off at grandma's and went out for a very few drinks. still had fun even if it was only a couple hours of freedom

Back from the trip, I think things went well... i hope too, i'm getting attached to this girl and her 2 little ones. I havent been this attached to someone in a long time. Hopefully she feels the same way and i'm sure i'll know fairly soon. Bones in the ears are good too!!
