Man... Perusing fb today there are some folks who are REALLY up in arms over the Chik Fil A thing. My thoughts? I've never had their food in the first place. Maybe I'm missing out. The owner expressed his right to 1st amendment speech by being against gay marriage. He has been within his rights to donate his money, the profits of his business, to anti-gay marriage politicians and organization
s. People protesting his business are within their rights for expressing their disliking of his, and by proxy- his businesses, stance on issues. People protest businesses all the time. The issue here isn't the protest, or protecting someone's right to speak their minds on an issue. People are up in arms over the issue of gay marriage itself. My personal stance is that the government shouldn't recognize marriages of any kind. If marriage is a religious thing like so many say it is- let it stay in places of worship. The courts aren't involved in baptisms, bar mitzvahs, or buddhist meditations, so they can stay out of marriage. If the government only recognizes "civil unions" then there is no issue. Man/woman, man/man, woman/woman... All are equal. Gays can marry if the church says, or not if the church doesn't approve, but the law will treat everyone the same. I live with 2 gay housemates, I have many gay, lesbian, transgender, bi, and queer friends. They have every right to the same protections and benefits under the law that I have as a straight guy. But it won't happen the way I described, that option is too practical, and this issue is too weighted in people's beliefs- what is practical will never come in to play. But know that gay marriage will come to pass in my lifetime, as interracial marriage came to pass in my parents lifetime. And there will always be people against it. That's the nature of the world. This has nothing to do with Chik Fil A or the protest or free speech. Because anyone fighting for free speech fights for the right to protest as well. Let's not delude ourselves by trying to confuse the issues. And that's all I've got to say about the issue.

The least of my concerns about him is his religion. Mormonism is no more or less ridiculous than any other religion. Anyone who allows religious dogma to dictate their public policies is going to end up doing a disservice to a large portion of the people they are elected to represent But make no mistake about it, whatever lipservice the men and women running our country may pay to their religious figures- they kneel at the alter of one god and one god only- monetary greed. Period..
