So that's that. I dropped him off at the bus terminal this morning, and out of my life he went.
As I was driving home afterwards, it seemed to take forever: every light turned red as I approached, every driver in front of me moved at a crawl. Now I understand something about time---how it moves so quickly towards separation, how the hours turn to seconds when we're counting down to zero. And, once we land on zero, the world seems to cease its spinning, all sounds go quiet, and time skids to a halt.
Reset.
The clock starts ticking again in the minutes after this death, a heavy pendulum swinging inside my chest, telling me that there is nothing, I'm empty, and what lies ahead is unknown.
