I tend to agree with your analysis: Kasich would carry Ohio and would probably run better than McCain or Romney in Michigan. I figured a year ago that Kasich-Rubio would probably be the strongest ticket the GOP could field this year, though cases could be made for other running mates. As a big-state governor and long time congressman, Kasich has more latitude in who he chooses, so long as (s)he doesn't offend the base.
