Not so much shy, but more like calculating. I'm they kind of person who likes to walk iinto a bar/club/party/room, etc - stand back and watch the scene develop. Once I see where it's going, I'll move into the action.

Now other times, I walk right in - start a conversation - and spend the next 6 hours talking about the fact that wind doesn't move the trees - but infact, the trees sense a change and move to create the wind.
