Extreme Makeover - this is such a stupid show. I watch a few minutes of it every once in a while and then have to turn away.
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition - this show is awesome. Sometimes, at the end, when the little kid sees their room's been turned into a spaceship or castle or something, I start to tear up a little. Does that make me emo?
The show I think people need is Extreme Makeover: Perception Edition in which we don't change the person, but the environment around them. Make them live for a month or so without their usual magazines and TV shows. Instead, subject them to endless hours of nature and culteral documenteries. Give them a library of DVD's that includes Crumb, American Splendor, American Movie, American Job and a collection of John Waters' early films. Give them books (without pictures) to read. Have 'em listen to some good ol' anti-fashion punk rock. After this month or so is over, have 'em look in a mirror. Then maybe they'll see how beautiful they really are.
