Hey there SG. Been awhile, huh? I check in every once in awhile but haven't been contributing for a long time.
Since my last blog I've rocked my new students (sad to be leaving), become an advance open water SCUBA diver in Malaysia, finished my 27th trip around the sun, experienced even more of Japan, become a ripped manbeast on CrossFit, manhandled a drunk Englishman who tried to start something with me (though I was the one with medical bills since I split my forehead when I took him down), eaten TONS of unagi/grilled eel, studied and prepared for the firefighting application process with Portland Fire & Rescue, and am finishing up my preparations to go home in 3 weeks!
I have 19 days left in Japan! That's exhilirating and frightening. This has been my home and my life for 3 years. I have grown so much and am ready to move on. I love Japan and would love to stay. But without a compelling reason to stay (fiance, wife, amazing job) there is no reason for me to stay.
I leave Japan July 25th. I'll drop my luggage off in Portland and continue on to Kansas. I'll be there just 2 days to pack up my stuff and will take Amtrak back to Portland arriving the 28th. The first test is August 1st.
I wish I could have stayed my extra allowed month, but with the August 1st test I'm taking my last 7 vacation days to leave Japan early to be back in time for the test.
Goodbye Japan. Portland here I come!
