Hola, Oi, Hello, Ciao, gorgeous ladies and Gents. It’s a beautiful Sunday here in Colorado. The Carrera sisters have taken my lady under their wing, my mom in our conversation yesterday asked me: mijo, deberías casarte con Cat, porque todos la amamos. Apparently she had made an impression during Christmas dinner, my mom has disliked all my girlfriends until now. So her and my sisters are out having a girls day doing who knows what. While I am watching playoff football, while I DVR the Red Wings game and then head to the gym.
Last night we had a dinner guest my friend Anneliese, who I have known since the first time I went to college. So today’s blog is about the bands that she got me into. This first group was one that I knew of but hadn’t listened to until Anneliese played me them. Pavement has since become one of my favorite bands this song is my go to.
Another band out of the Chapel Hill scene that she was a fan of was Archers Of Loaf. Their use of dissonance and interesting lyrics. Have always appealed to me. This track is a favorite one of mine to play on guitar.
The last of the Chapel Hill bands that she showed me was Superchunk. Which I adore, Mac Macaughan has a unique voice and is a great guitarist. This song was my introduction.
For my Twenty-first birthday she gave me a copy of Houdini by the Melvins. I’ve since seen over a dozen Melvins shows, almost all of them with Anneliese. Even the last tour with Jeff Pinkus and Stephen McDonald on bass. I’ve always loved this track.
This next group has been one of my favorite bands and live performance that I’ve had the pleasure of seeing. When Anneliese was promoting shows for Club 156 in Boulder. She booked these guys and told me I had to go see them when they came, I was not disappointed. The energy, the emotional performance, and the Afros. At The Drive-In recently reformed and put out an okay record. This song has always been my favorite
This next group was one that Anneliese was fanatical about. She owns all the music and insisted that I listen to them on a regular basis. The Clean was a punk band out of New Zealand. She wasn’t wrong about them.
This next group was one that I’ve had a soft spot for. Featuring Steve Albini of Rapeman/Big Black and record producing of The Jesus Lizard. Shellac has one of those sounds that can’t be duplicated although numerous bands have tried. Playing a guitar with an aluminum neck, Steve Albini is always pushing the boundaries of rock music.
this Russian cutie, has one of the cutest bums I’ve had the privilege of being able to see. She likes Salvador Dalí and does a great princess bubblegum cosplay. The gorgeous @ultramarie
Have a great day everyone!
