//I haven't given up on No Man's Sky but I can't pass up another shot at Ark Survival. I mean I spent a huge amount on this PC and it has been used almost exclusively to play NMS and to watch people play games on Twitch.. and even that's a stretch.. they want me to mod.. so I don't spend much time watching the games they play.
Day 1
I've been dropped onto this new play area.. just naked again.. in the body of a woman this time. My brief stint on the regular island just wasn't getting any traction as much as I was making some progress it was too much of the same.
Here though.. I have discovered that the developers of this game are mad people.
I didn't survive a few minutes. Actually I died several times in the first 5 days because this area (South 1) although labeled EASY.. that's bullshit. But it seems now that I've provided an adequate amount of meat.. the predators have left the area.
Annoyed.. at having died and been eaten so often though.. in stark contrast to never dying or having to eat in NMS.. I look at all these herbivores and think.. in a few minutes I'll have a club and a sling shot, a hut and a fire. I'll be dining on steaks shortly.
BUT ITS FUCKING HOT. And there's no water. And while yes I did mess up and not realise that you can drink from the little water well points.. I was in too much of a rush to stand at just the perfect angle to drink. And died. Said fuck it and had left the game for a bit.
When I came back I gave it another shot and found that.. yeah.. while the game is still particular about interacting with certain objects.. being able to drink from a stupidly small puddle in the desert will keep you alive.
But if this niggle is the first of many.. it really isn't a small one. Building a shelter doesn't take long and will help you survive your first few days and nights.. but hydration is a huge issue.
On the 4th or 5th day a storm whipped up and I thought YAY rain!.. but it was just wind and dust. Sadness.
There's some things called water jug bugs that I want to kill and see how they will affect my efforts at sustainable hydration but they fly away. They don't fly too quickly though so I figure I might be able to down them with a bow and arrow in a few hours. So for the time being.. like with the first Island area.. which seems a tropical paradise looking back on things.. Hydration will be a thing kept in check by collecting fruit.
