So for a reason that I can't remember I went onto amazon and bought a VR Box for my phone.
This one isn't too bad but there were nicer ones between 20 and 30 bucks. No regrets... This thing is awesome. Makes me want to buy a 3D printer and get some customs optics made by my optometrist so I can get a much better HD view. Like it only took a few seconds to drive home that this is really awesome.
It's just a plastic housing with garbage lenses but once adjusted properly.. They are magic. Like a Viewmaster but with video and stereo sound. Although Viewmaster probably has some hot toys these days lol.
The videos I got are mind blowing let's say because that 3rd dimension makes the preformers seem like real people you can reach out and touch.. But for real it's like a brain fuck because with POV you want to respond back.. and the POV perspective means they come right up to the camera... There's almost no 4th wall and if it wasn't for the garbage 1/2 or less HD resolution of even a Nexus 5 which is sharp when in your hand, when up against your face the resolution is way too low. But that's fine. It's something 3D television could have done years ago had it actually been popular. But at 20 bucks these dorky never to be brought out in public gogs are prefect for getting the ball rolling on VR... Finally.
The site I get them from has been publishing content in VR for ages though. It has been shredding me that I was missing out on what seemed like great content because I don't own a rift or vive nor do I want one. Not without a better pc first anyway.
But trying to figure out the finances for a real gaming PC built on AMD Polaris or Nvidia Pascale 1070 or wtv graphics VR vs 4K was going to be a factor at some level. Again at 20 dollars this dinky box makes a huge case for real VR versus a 4K monitor. Like I'm going to end up banging my head against the wall that I can't get play Ark in VR. While trying to play Ark Survival in 4k would mean more money.
From now until the end of June I can play with it some more. Though it is limited to use with just the phone, and not with either console or PC it's still more than enough time to really get into VR.
The 3 videos I've watched so far, with Remy Lacroix, Natasha Nice and Kate England have all 3 made me take a second look at 3 of my favorite starlets. I'd thought that HD was enough to really get that immersion that was missing.. But VR / 3D really does add more immersion. Google's stupid 2GB autobackup limit has meant an over supply of HD content of all kinds to watch by I don't have anything else that's 3D ready. Though there's still plenty of phone friendly videos that are easy to stream. Only issue being that the VR videos don't automagically upload. I'd have to push them up manually or upload them to Microsoft OneDrive. Thankfully MS saw fit to give me a free terabyte to pay with. Ironically the first movie I'd put on the was creative control. I'm sad actually that the movie isn't in 3D as it probably opened the door to my spontaneous decision to buy this VR box in the first place.
This plastic POS is nothing compared to Augmenta and they didn't even leave a finger hole to control the phones touchscreen but who cares.. It would just leave greasy prints on the screen and lender. So it works fine. If and when Augmenta becomes a reality it'll be long after the ground work is paved by shitty proof of concept crap like VR box, and rift and give for that matter since they are still low res and bulky.
