I'm really sorry to hear about your mom. I'm not sure that taking care of yourself is selfish, though. I know it *feels* selfish ... but seriously, if you don't care of yourself, you usually fail yourself and the other person. That's my personal experience. I'm sure more will be revealed; you probably don't have enough information to make a lot of decisions yet. Hang in there. I'm really sorry you're going through this.

Gotta love getting in over yer head eh? I did the same thing pretty much the first thing after I got my bike a few months ago. I went out and tried to tackle a local trail, which as it turns out is reputed to be one of the hardest ones in the tri-state area and subsequently got burned the fuck out. I must have gotten lapped about ten times that first day by the hardcore riders. I did burn off about 3 pounds though...

And yeah, my body thanked me the next day!

I don't know where "work" is or which Will Rogers you refer to, but everything I can think of would indicate this was one long ass ride. I guess it's nice to push yourself sometimes. Hope you recover soon.

I had no idea that was the name of an album. Of course I had to go look it up after you mentioned it and it does indeed sound like it would be pretty good, that is if it's the compilation album that I found under the same name.

Matt Dillon was on Rollins' show a week or so ago talking about it and it sounds very interesting. Oddly it's one of the few Bukowski books I have yet to read and I'm wondering if I should spoil the movie by reading the book or the book by watching the movie...

'Course although I'm sure Dillon does a fine job it's not quite how I picture Henry Chinaski in my head.
