So my car is fixed! And it didn't cost a million dollars, only about 340$ and it was fixed by a very nice Russian man named George with a Russian accent. It was a very stressful week and I'm glad I survived. Thank you all for the good vibes and well wishes, it all worked out in the end!
And, as usual, @missy and @rambo have given us a weekly blog topic and I feel like I can actually try to answer this one... The last couple were a little too off for me I think (Most embarrassing moment? Ha. I embarrass myself daily), but here goes. Ten facts about Kiley that may or may not interest you.
1) I am the official founding member of the Dead Parent club- founded in 1988. By that I mean, my mother died when I was a four year old and a few years back a strange amount of my friends and all I had at least one parent who was no longer alive. We used to joke that we should form a club. It's not a real club, and I don't like people saying "ohhh, I'm sorry"-- it was 26 years ago. I'm over it.
2) I still bite my nails. I know it's repulsive. It's mostly out of extreme anxiety (especially when I drive). I used to smoke when I drove around, but I haven't really smoked in years (just the occasional one or two when I'm drinking) . If my nails aren't painted, they're a lost cause.
3) My favorite movie of all time is Velvet Goldmine, starring Ewan McGregor, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Christian Bale. I became obsessed with the movie when I was a senior in high school and it changed my life. It's about 1970s Glam Rock singers and glitter and gayness and makeup and oh the costumes are so fabulous I can't even... I just saw it in LA at Cinefamily (the silent movie theater on Fairfax and Melrose) and I DIED. Seriously, nothing like seeing your favorite movie of 13 years on the big screen. Plus, it was a dress up event! Glitter everywhere!
4) Speaking of glitter... I have a HUGE obsession with Drag Queens. You should all know this. If you know me at all, it will always come up in conversation. I constantly watch old episodes of Ru Paul's Drag Race to cheer myself up. My best friend Cassy and I have seen a bunch of shows but all on the East Coast. I have yet to go to a drag show here in LA- which makes NO SENSE, seeing as how I live in Weho and drive by all the clubs every day on my way to work.
5) I've never had a dream job. To be honest, I work extremely hard at my job at Sephora and at every job I've ever had. But if I could get away with not working and just explore the world and be fine, I would love that. If only I had the balls.
6) My favorite place in the world is the island of Nantucket. If you're unfamiliar, it's an island off the coast of Cape Cod in Massachusetts. It's 14 miles long and mostly inhabited in the summer time when ridiculously wealthy people go out to summer in their grey houses with white shutters. My boyfriend's father lives there year round and gets to take care of all these giant houses. The first time I went, it was grey and wintery in February, and he showed us a few of his favorite houses. Nantucket in the winter time is magical and surreal. I want to live there one day.
7) I went to a bunch of different summer camps as a kid and always wanted to work at one. Specifically, Agassiz Village in Maine, where I went for several years in a row. I always figured I would kind of be like Janeane Garafolo in Wet Hot American Summer (and I've always wanted to shoot a set based on WHAS)
8) I love the Muppets. I know it's insanely dorky, but I LOVE them. I think it's because I look like a muppet. I have this thigh tattoo planned out that I want to get of Kermit, Piggy, Gonzo and Animal in a hot air balloon with lots of bright colors.
9) I also love Disney. I used to work for the Disney Store (back in 2005- when I was an SG member. Dorkiest SG member everrrr). I don't have a CA license yet, but I do have an annual pass to Disneyland. I will use everyone visiting me here as an excuse to go to Disneyland. As if I need an excuse...
10) I picked my SG name Kiley from my favorite band of all time... Rilo Kiley. That's where the unipines on the back of my legs come from, too, but no one ever understand what they are. If I hadn't chosen Kiley or if someone else had taken a variation of the name before I went pink (and I'm still glad no one has- I've had this name since 2005 and that's almost a decade), I wanted to be Indy for Indiana Jones. Indiana Jones was my original hero as a kid and I wish I could've been an archaeologist.
So there you have it. Ten facts about me. I really am enjoying reading everyone elses.... More please!
