I decided to foray the world of online dating once again. I have used it in the past, but as a supplement to meeting people in real life. Some experiences have been good, others unsavory. The thing that has always deferred me away has been the fact that there are too many women with giant checklists of expectations on these sites.
I can understand need to craft a well written opening message. Really, you want to be unique and stand out. This is expected of the male, but the female rarely feels the need to write back something interesting. I've never understood why the guy has to show he's worthwhile, while the female doesn't feel the need to reciprocate. Too many girls expect the guy to be someone that sky dives through rings of fire while being chased by pirates riding sharks (yeah, through the sky, stfu) who are firing rockets. Then you look at their interests and it's usually mentions working, TV or dancing at the bar every weekend. Seriously?!? I'm an interesting and well educated person who places his partner as an equal, so I expect the girl to have some substance too.
I did make a date last weekend with someone I met off an online dating site. We did dinner then saw District 9. If you haven't seen District 9 go see it soon! The story starts off a little slow, but quickly moves in an unexpected direction. The characters were all well written and the action was perfectly paced. It's hard to imagine they made the movie with only $30 million. The ending left the movie with a small cliff hanger. I really hope they don't make a sequel. Sequels often destroy the magic of the first movie and I think District 9 can stand alone on it's own.
I spent the entire paragraph above rambling about the movie, never mentioning the girl. She was nice, although a bit quiet with no real chemistry. My above assessments towards online dating may be a bit deceiving as to my success rate. Although I obviously haven't met "the one" yet, I have gotten dates out of most of the girls I have contacted. I'll put some effort towards it for a little while longer, but I don't expect much out of it.
