I'm both glad I'm buying Don's Wii from him and also not happy about spending the money on it. He's pretty much giving me a couple of games, four controllers and the system for $250, which sounds like a pretty good deal as that's what the system alone costs. It's just at an inconvenient time, but October 2nd is his last day, which is exactly two paychecks from now so if I set aside $125 each week, I'm set. Easier said than done, but if I stay out of the comic shop and don't eat too much, it should be fine. Apparently after work on the 2nd he's going to Utah to go camping. My reaction to this news was WTF, but apparently that's what macho straight dudes do. They love the natures. Then when he comes back from Utah WTF he's moving back in with his parents in Park Forest, which is a suburban shadow of Chicago, so he'll be pretty far away. Again, not incredibly please with this because Don and I have actually kind of become loosely affiliated friends in the past year of working together. I'll miss going out to the bar with him, making fun of customers with him and actually getting him to read some days. It seems like when you just get to know someone that's when it becomes even harder to know them.
In non-shameless self-promotion news, I just got off the phone from Katie. She seemed to realize I was kind of sad, which made her sad, which in turn made me rather sad. Vicious cycle and what not. Apparently she is with her friend Emily over there and they're back in Tokyo. Sounds like they're having fun too. I love that every time she calls me I can hear little Japanese kids screaming in the background. She said she went to Hiroshima and the museum was awesome but really sad too. I think I'd like to go there, but I'd probably annoy her because I'd end up standing in the same place for hours at a time thinking about unique situations before the bomb was dropped for way too long. She said they had a bike that a guy donated after his kid melted on it, but the bike survived, then they buried their kid in their backyard. She also said she was surprised that there was a big display essentially saying, "yeah, so we were jerks and attacked America and they melted our bones. Most unfortunate"
Mondays are like my Fridays. I'm really glad tomorrow is Monday. And by Monday I don't mean Friday, I mean Monday in the traditional sense, so it's going to be just like Friday in the traditional sense. I just want to SLEEP AND SLEEP.
I still haven't heard back from management about getting a Hertz promotion and getting more MONEY, which is the only that can make me stay. I actually wouldn't be surprised if they were just going to keep delaying it to try to keep me around without actually paying me more. Unfortunately I also haven't heard back from any prospective employers, though I did only apply for a debt consolidation place that a 'friend' just got hired at and that security position at the hospital. Tomorrow night I need to make time to look and apply for more jobs. It's just such a bitch trying to find a job that will pay me not entirely horribly and also be tolerable. I HATE having a job where you just dread going in every day. I remember when I worked at Mobil I would start dreading going to work on Tuesday afternoon on Monday morning.
This morning I received a pretty understanding e-mail from my local comic shop not only confirming my cancellations but informing me that, at my request, I could cancel the comics I just ordered from the catalogue this month because the order hadn't been submitted yet. So now I'm on the road to financial independence. Kind of. I'm guessing that this means that I'll stop getting DC comics automatically around the end of October and the beginning of November. I hope this internet thing works out.
