I have recently become a little bit obsessed with everything to do with our solar system, the universe and space. You may or may not know that Space Shuttle Discovery flew its last mission recently where it docked with the International Space Station and delivered it's latest robot, called Robonaut 2 (or R2 for short) so it can go on and do space walks and stuff. Now, Discovery has flown 148,000,000 miles in it's career! This means it could have flown round the Earth a gazillion times. While Discovery was docked with the Space Station you could watch a live feed at all times of what was going on up there in the station. It was amazing watching these awesome Astronauts go about their day. it also made me realise how unimportant and mundane my job is. Don't get me wrong, I love my job, but I'm not a fucking Astronaut! I just wished I had listened more in physics lessons in school. Watching NASA TV was very comforting though for some reason. I would be sat at home eating my tea, occasionally checking in on the astronauts doing a space walk or just going about their daily jobs. It was like a geeky, far cooler version of Big Brother!
So, if you do one thing today, just go on NASA.gov, watch some videos and look at some pictures because it shows some of the amazing things the human race is capable of and might make you feel a little proud of your fellow man. It may also make you realise your day job is a bag of wank, but hey, life's all about ups and downs.
