I like old items with character...
I carry a pocketwatch, smoke a pipe, have an old candlestick-type phone on my desk and a World War I Nagant revolver in the drawer.
Not too long ago, they allowed the drink absinthe in the U.S. again: the drink of 19th century artists and the like. It seems that the popularity of abisnthe threatened the wine industry at the time, so they financed an anti-absinthe campaign that caused it to be banned.
In our society of "use and throw away" items, I look for things that have survived the test of time. You'd be surprised at how inexpensive many things are.
