OK, I would be far more interested in reading about the beautiful and fascinating ladies on here than some overeducated goth rock guy, but here are some personal details for whoever is interested. Thank you for reading!
Religion: I did not click on this because the answers were a little too glib or vague for my taste. I think the best explanation of my status on this is "hard line agnostic". A simple answer that would satisfy most people would be "atheist" because I don't really walk around with a lot of doubt or straddle both sides of the debate at all. But metaphysical and cosmological issues are complex and I often think we are about as capable as finding answers to them as my cat Wendy would be able to work out a quadratic equation. I certainly don't live in fear of a big man in the sky watching me.
Favorite film: It rotates between Drive, Bonnie & Clyde, Godfather Part II and Melville's film L'armee des Ombres (Army of Shadows, roughly translated). Yeah, I really like crime films.
Favorite album: Joy Division, Closer. Bowie's "Low" is right up there. The Smith's "The Queen is Dead", The Clash "Combat Rock", PIL's "Flowers of Romance", The Rolling Stone's "Sticky Fingers"....these can all be on pretty much unlimited rotation. I am younger than my taste in music. I had older friends with good taste.
My education: I am an honors undergraduate with a degree in History. My main focus of study is the Reformation era in England, France and the Low Countries. I also took a lot of classes in United States history in the 20th century. My minors are in anthropology and psychology. I was very close to a psychology degree at graduation but I learned what I wanted/needed to on the subject.
Politics: I chose "Smash the state". I am best explained as a left-wing minarchist. Government is too powerful and invasive in the United States where I live. Especially surveillance. I don't like being told what to do. I also don't like telling other people what to do. However, the state should provide environmental protection, basic social services, and a safety net for the disadvantaged, very old, and very young. I am not an ideologue and would work with people on the right or the left to solve a problem.
Heroes: Joan of Arc, Thomas More, Marlon Brando, Joan Baez, Muhammad Ali, and other people who spoke truth to power.
Talents: I have a very good memory and a high capacity for hard work. This helped a great deal at school. Sadly I don't have any real artistic talent. I would love to paint if I had any technical skill. I love films about great painters and I find the lives of artists to be fascinating. Some of my favorite films, like "Vincent and Theo", "Frida", "Pollock", and "Surviving Picasso", are in this vein. I also really like writing but I don't really have a lot of free time to devote to it. I want to complete a doctoral program and work a LOT of hours to stash money away.
My favorite places: Lawrence, Kansas is my favorite small city. Chicago, Illinois is my favorite big city. I am really fond of Milwaukee, actually. They have wonderful old architecture. I have never visited New York City. I've lived in Seattle and Cincinnati, and have visited Melbourne, Buffalo, St Louis, Memphis, Nashville, Atlanta, Denver, Kansas City, Minneapolis, Omaha, Detroit, and others. If time was no obstacle I would travel to London, Amsterdam, Bruges, Paris, Venice, and Rome. For starters.
My Vices: I spend too much money on: Combat sports, college football tickets, old coins (mostly Roman Empire), DVD's and books. All other things in moderation. I can be obsessed with bad habits for a while but luckily I don't have an addictive personality.
That's all for right now. Thank you!
