So poetry and spoken word have become, over the last year, a big part of my being. I was a bit of a late comer to this show and boy do I regret it. The intelligence, charisma and artistry that can be expressed in a poem is just incomparable.
I've been a fan of hip-hop/spoken word for a while (before poetry which is weird), and I find it incredibly empowering. For met the best stuff, is moral. It's raps and writing about our lives, it's about politics, morality, values and the status quo. I personal favourite is Scroobius Pip, an incredibly talented writer who has produced the best song about religion I've ever heard, listen here.
I found a new talent today. And he's from over the pond (to me anyway...), I found him on a great gender neutrality site (Here) and he's called Guate. THIS is what he can do. What a fantastic critique and execution of one of my pet peeves in the gender-stereotype wars. The idea that as men, we should act in this way and women should act in their own separate ways and heaven forbid if someone tries to break the norm. You a bloke and do you have feelings?! God! MAN UP!
Every day must be challenged. Everything you are told must be questioned.
