i have a new niece. my sister went into labor yesterday morning, was doing great until about 330 or 4, when she suddenly dilated 2.5cm at the same time that she had a contraction where the kid's heartbeat dropped dramatically.
(bear in mind this is happening a thousand miles away from here, and i'm finding everything out by phone)
doctor's come a-running, they want to do an ultrasound because the kid is clearly in distress when my sister has contractions.
did i mention that my sister (when non-pregnant weighs a buck five, soaking wet? she's little itty bitty tiny. ask deadofwinter. my theory is there was just no *room* in there.
while they were doing the ultrasound she had another contraction, and the kid's heartrate dropped to almost nothing. at this point my mother calls me, crying, panicking, because they shoved her out of the room and rushed my sister to c-section. then she hangs up on me and i don't hear anything for 30 minutes.
i call my nurse friend who informs me that c-sections don't take that long. comforting. sorta.
another 30 minutes later i get the phone call. sister and baby are fine.
then i start crying happy/relieved tears.
