For the past several months, each day I’ve come here I’ve had a harder and harder time understanding what the site’s leadership group is doing. During this extended period there have been a lot of SOTD being featured of SGs from years past. Today is no exception. I’ve written about this before and my question is still: why? I don’t remember seeing any particular announcement about this theme, like hey, let’s take a month to celebrate SGs from years gone by. And in the event, it’s been far longer than one month, it’s been several. There are a lot of women who have waited a long time for this, and one in particular - @starphire - who just seems to get perpetually passed over for no good reason. Honestly, it seems deliberate and mean-spirited. You mean to tell me you just HAD to give a day to a set with 2,600 likes from 5 years ago from an SG who’s been pink for 11 years, but you can’t FINALLY give one fucking day to a person who’s been a contributor to the culture and values of the site for over 20 years? I’ve written @penny about it and was told it’s not really up to her, so who exactly is it up to then? Which person on the leadership totem pole wants to explain to me what seems like a clear moral error and the justification for it? I know my measly $48/year grandfathered subscription is totally meaningless and doesn’t move the needle for anything, but I have to think other people have noticed this strange shift away from elevating bright newcomers and long-suffering Hopefuls and towards spotlighting people who have already gotten their fair share of attention. Someone point me in the direction of either some sensible answer or the person I can write to to get the answer.

@1956firebird I’m glad I’m not alone in recognizing this weird shift. Two days ago, it was a set from Feb. 1, 2015, yesterday a set from November 17, 2008, today a set with under 2k likes from 6 months ago. I want to be clear that I think all these women are deserving of our celebration and adoration, but they’re also all SG veterans long since made officially pink. I just don’t get why it would be such an enormous heavy lift to finally give the longest suffering Hopeful her ridiculously overdue recognition. Maybe there’s something I don’t know about the situation, but it sure looks like a cruel and unjustifiable vendetta from the outside. It breaks my heart for Starphire, who, to her infinite credit, soldiers on and continues to produce lovely sets despite being apparently blackballed.

@GOALIEGUY43 Ditto, basically. I had not considered it might be malice aforethought.
