i'm in Salt Lake City.

until the severance/retention bonus that will get me 7 months of salary becomes definite, i'm still taking a hard look at job oppoortunities here in SLC, because if i don't get the severance pay, it would be a good idea to stay employed.

but i'm not really keen to move to SLC.

it does have a few things to recommend...

hi ff! "always look on the bright side of life" *whistle whistle* a little m.p. to throw at ya. i truly hope your life settles soon. slc is a crazy place. the liquor laws alone are enough to make you wonder if they know it's 2002. it is beautiful though-about 6 hours from me. i imagine there's lots of stuff to do there, you may just have to seek it out more (?). hope you can hook up with TheGil. take care!

i went to get sushi yesterday for lunch, and i found myself seated facing the most amazing baby with incredible blue eyes.

she was just laying there facing me, next to a couple who were having their lunch.

for the entire half hour following, except during brief interruptions when her parents twiddled her toes or something, she just stared at me with those amazing eyes....

So my birthday is coming up, and thanks to my rad friend L, I am gonna get a party without lifting a finger. Woooo!

We haven't set a definite date, but it will most likely be the 11th, 13th, 18th, or 19th. Tentative plans include a kick-ass band playing, top-notch drinkies, yummy party treats baked by the lovely L, and a hot tub and a...

It's raining. Oddly enough, I woke up this morning, and I didn't even notice until I read Violet's journal entry about it raining all day yesterday wherever she is. And then I heard it, and I went to the window, and there is the rain, and the angry gray clouds, and the rain-fog on the window.

And then I remembered this, which I wrote ages...

You really should see rain as a calm and view it positively. Believe me, living in the Pacific NW, I have to remind myself to love the rain, but it really can be relaxing and nice.
Liked the poem!

The guy downstairs from me needs help. Serious help.

Saturday a week ago, I was awakened at 4:30am to discover 4 carloads of cops and an FD cherrypicker in the courtyard plucking a guy off the adjacent 4th floor apartment balcony, not 5 feet from my bedroom window.

At the time, I am rather freaked out. Is this someone trying to break in? Is he...

So I'm driving home listening to Joy Division's "Closer", loud, and with the windows down, because yes, it has been one of those days.

But let me back up...

I had an interesting IM conversation with an ex today. She lectured me about worrying too much, and how I should take more risks.

So I'm driving home, and Ian Curtis is wailing to the creeping...

ff-
funny how certain songs fit particular moments. i love that my life has a soundtrack.
it's unfortunate that your ex can't see your nobility. i don't know if i could still talk her if i were you. i tip my glass to you this evening!

The weekend was wonderful, despite a lapse in Internet access that has delayed me in delivering tdings of it to all of you beautiful souls.

But at last, here I am to regale you with tales of the past few days...

The weather has been magnificent--unusually autumnal for Texas at this time of year, thanks to a welcome cold front that has paid us an...

man, I need to go bowling.

we had some excellent bowling trips in high school. we'd drive around for hours trying to figure out what to do and usually ended up at the bowling alley.

Hmm, I'm talking about that like it wasn't 5 years ago.

I'm a big fan of brian eno's "oblique strategies", which is not one of his many albums, but a set of cards designed to assist one in considering different approaches to things.

Posing this question was a strategy of that sort. The charm and variety of the responses is very much appreciated!

Unfortunately, it would be both tactless and artless of me to explain the actual situation at this point, but perhaps at some point in the near future.

Meanwhile, my heartfelt thanks to all who contributed.

What I miss most...

Sitting behind her in a hot bath, washing her back as she wriggles her toes.

The warmth at the back of her knee on the front of my kneecap.

The gentle rise and fall of her lungs beneath my arm.

Surreal whispered conversations in our last moments of half-sleep before finally nodding off.

I miss hot baths (by myself). Stupid dorm.
