So, I tend to do this on a few different social media platforms from time to time, and I am sure that one can call SG a social media platform, just one with a lot of hot naked girls on it right? Anyway, every quarter or so I tend to show a list of songs that I tend to be having on my playlist that I listen to a lot while studying/editing photos/ bike riding/walking/driving to a shoot, what have you. Here is what I consider the top songs that I am currently listening to. As you will be able to tell, I have a very diverse music listening library, but here you go, I hope all in YouTube videos (yes, I am not going to do photos this update)
1. Seriously - This American Life
(Side note, I LOVE this radio show. If you have never listened to it on your local public radio stations, do it. Here is also their website, This American Life website, and has all of their old radio shows on there. I hope you become as addicted as I have become over the past 10 years or so.)
2. Brandenburg Gate ft. Tim Armstrong - Anti-Flag
I have always been a fan of Anti-Flag, ever since Die for Your government came out in what...1996? I have constantly listened to them over the past few weeks, which I think is more and more important since the All Great Cheeto is now in office.
3. Hey Now - Matt & Kim
there is no length of text that I can do to fully express how much these guys mean to me in their music. It is a lot of fun and while being poppy, still something that you can get up and dance to, and you honestly feel like you can take on the world type of attitude.
4. What Happened - H20
Honestly, there is nothing more than can be said about the punk scene today. I come from the DYI punk scene from the 1990s, right before what I consider the birth of the Pop Punk bands, or rather the explosion of them. It almost seems like Punk is now a fashion sense and not so much about the music, the unity, and even the activism that it used to be about.
5. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Sarah Bareilles
Yes, I know this is a remix from Sir Elton John, which I am a HUGE fan of his work, and this is technically the second Sara Bareilles song that I have posted, but it is a very beautiful version of this song that I really cannot get enough of. Plus, in a past life, I knew her...but that was a long time ago and we have sense lost touch. I doubt since she has became famous that she even remembers me, it has been that long.
6. Conqueror - Aurora
This is a rather new song to me, really only discovering it since FIFA 16 come to my house (yes, I am still a soccer fan and I do play it on my XBox 360...give me a break). This 20 year old singer from Norway has a great attitude about her, sounds exactly the same way in person as she does on her recordings, and there is just something there that is amazing. I cannot wait to see where she goes from here. It will be amazing I am sure.
7. Dreaming - Smallpools
Here is another band I found form FIFA soccer, but this was from 2014. Still a great poppy alternative rock band that I think fell back into slight obscurity, but I am not sure. I really like this song however and still have it on at least one play list.
8. The Impression that I get - The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
Just like with Anti-Flag, I have been following these guys for years, and while this song is an oldie (holy crap...1997, I still remember when this was brand fucking new on the radio) I still pop it in and crank it up and dance around, and fucking have fun. Especially on a day like today where the weather is in the 70s and the sun is out. Really, how the fuck can you not? You have to be non-human with no heart or soul not to. End of story, fact not opinion.
9. Only living boy in New York - Simon and Garfunkel
Okay, a real nice oldie here, from 1969, but this song just makes me smile and is such a great song to listen to on repeat if I am going on a late night walk around my small Kansas town, which I know is so far outside of New York, but still...one can still sing it and just get the largest shit eating grin on their face.
10. What I want - This Bike is a Pipebomb
Most likely the best folk punk band that you have never heard of before. I remember seeing these guys in a very similar house party show at the old Pirate House back in the late 1990s/early 2000s...it was awesome. Another band that I am not 100% sure what happened to. Some people say they have broke up, others say they are still touring, but who knows. I have like two CDs of theirs which is just a LOT of fun. ON A SIDE NOTE, if you ever have the chance to find another band that was on their label called The Sissies or The Bananas (they were all on Plan-it-X records at one point in time) Get those band's work as well. Trust me. So fantastic. I love it.
So there you go...my top ten for right now. I hope you enjoy. Let me know what you think and what your top 10 songs/bands are right now as well.
Fast.
