Yeah, I should blog here more often. Two months since my last post. I'm sorry.

Last month, Slow Djinn Fez played at the Drum, Dance, and Didgeridoo Festival here in Reno. That was part of the Artown celebration here, which is a month-long festival of music, dance, theater, and the visual arts. It's a large part of what makes July my favorite month here, in...

This past Saturday MrPinstripeSuit had a grand whiskey-tasting party at his place. Several of our mutual friends from previous years were there. And after whiskey, whisky, whisky, beer, and more whiskey, some of us got the munchies and went on an early-morning Oreo cookie run to the 7-Eleven! biggrin

I had promised to blog some details of my recent Boston trip, which I think I shall...

Last Friday we finally performed Moonlit Arabian Nights at the Pioneer Center. The theater was relatively full for both performances: the school-kid's matinee and the regular evening show. I don't know whether I'll be able to get and post any photos from the show, but man, it looked spectacular. It's gratifying, too, when the audience roars its approval! biggrin

And now that what has been...

Somedays i wish i had groupies.. tongue

You definatley have to be careful and aware that death is always there.. and respect it for the good it does... thats not to say not to take risks.. but simply not to be stupid and seize the day.

and im not sure if uve seen mel brooks history of the world.. but if so, you can also sometimes say to death, "seize this honkus!"

yes i am doing well. i hope you are too and i hope other posters in that death journal i wrote got to read you post as well. nicely put smile
shellymc:
How's those groupies treating you? biggrin

More evil laughter...

That piece that I'm composing modulates between Hijaz (a key with one sharp and one-and-a-half or two flats) shocked and Hijazkar dukah ( a key with two sharps and two flats) shocked shocked. This is very evil, and I'm proud of it!

Bwahahahahahahahaha! biggrin ARRR!!! biggrin

As Lord_Frous suggests, the curious can read about modulation in Arabic music at Maqam World.

I have to share this with you...

My band mates have accused me of writing evil music, since they can't play some of my compositions without (shudder) practicing really hard. [To put this in context, you should understand that my band mates are quite good musicians.]

So anyway, when I realized what I'd written to start my latest piece, I actually let out...

I think you've got my favorite answer so far (jeez - at the risk of offending anyone else!). I always thought I'd rather have absolute beauty, too - but could never put my finger on precisely why. I knew it boiled down to my aesthetic nature, and had something to do with beauty being power...but that's as far as I got!

And by the way, thank you for the enthusiastic welcome-back! biggrin kiss
shellymc:
I love "Harold and Maude"...
and dare i say.... i love Cat Stevens also ( well his music anyway wink )
But i'm not sure what his name is now...
Mohammed something?
Still, great songs came out of the man at one time.
And some of those tunes are on the soundtrack biggrin
