2013 was okay. It wasn’t really bad. My close female friend died and then my tent burnt down at Burning Man in 2012, and then this year I made good progress on having a better attitude. I was surprised I was able to get my emotional state back in focus, deal with the pain, and evolve into a happier person. I hope 2014 will continue with good experiences and spiritual evolution.
The past three months was good for my music. I finally have a band I like. Two guitars, bass, keyboards, and two drummers and we’re playing Psychedelic Folk Rock music. We are working on recording an album of songs I wrote. For the past three years, it seemed like I just couldn’t find the right other musicians, then everything started to click. Maybe we’ll get something cooking in the year to come. I hope so.
During the past several years I have been working on a more subtle and grounded approach to my spiritual evolution. After years of getting into deep meditation, yoga, and reading every spiritual text I could find; I gave that up to try to find the essence of life in gardening. Physical labor and tending the needs of plants helped to get me more grounded in this world, and then the lessons of Zen seemed to become clearer to me. Perhaps in 2014 I’ll get back into meditation and yoga and reinvent my spirit.
I’m ready for a new adventure, but I don’t have great expectations.
Although the SG site went through some changes in 2013, there are still some very interesting people here and I appreciate you.
The New Year finds me trending hopeful. In the words of Robert Earl Keen, “The road goes on forever and the party never ends!”
