@missy and @rambo recently assigned blog homework: The 5 Best Things About SG...
The ... is for anything about SG: Being a Suicide Girl, Being a Suicide Girl Hopeful, Being a Suicide Girl Staff Photographer, Being a Suicide Girl Photographer Hopeful, Being a Suicide Girl Member, SG Shootfests, SG Events. Anything. Even just 5 Things You Like/Love About Suicide Girls.
I've been a member since 2013, though I only started really interacting with people in group threads, commenting on blog posts, commenting on photosets and more since February 2016. I can easily list 5 reasons why I love Suicide Girls.
5. Blogs/Vlogs
With so many members, SG Hopefuls, Suicide Girls, Staff & Staff Photographers, and Photographer Hopefuls, there are lots of interesting blogs to read and vlogs to watch. I enjoy them immensely as it is one way to learn about many of the fascinating and interesting people on Suicide Girls. Some posts are funny, some sad, some personal, some commenting on current events and more. I comment on some to interact with the writer... trying to help cheer him/her up, provide encouragement, compliment the writer, provide counterpoints to social commentary, expand on social commentary, etc. In this way, I can connect with people on Suicide Girls and even made some friends.
One of my favorite blogs to write is my weekly WCW post. I have fun trying to decide who to choose (I can almost never choose just one), photos to use in the post and what to write about each lady. I hope they enjoy the acknowledgement as much as I enjoy writing them. It's especially rewarding for me when my WCWs acknowledge my post(s) with a ❤️ and/or a comment (even just a thank you).
4. Groups
There are a lot of groups. I don't know exactly how many, but I would fathom a guess of at least 100, likely a lot more than 100. There's at least one group topic for everyone, probably more than one. I'm a member of several... in fact I just joined Code Monkeys earlier today since I write test automation code occasionally as a professional software tester. Some are silly, like the Silliness thread. Some are more serious. Some are geared toward Hopefuls, Suicide Girls or photographers. Like I said, there's at least one topic for everyone. I enjoy reading comments on a variety of thread topics and contribute when I have something relevant to share.
3. The Photosets
I'm probably like other member (excluding Suicide Girls and Hopefuls) in that I joined because of the photosets. In fact, I joined because I know someone who joined SG with the goal to become a Suicide Girl (I think it was her 3rd set that was purchased and made her PINK). The photosets are, by and large, fantastic, the ladies beautiful. I especially love it when the girls show off their quirks, fetishes, hobbies, passions, etc. in their photosets, even though those aren't typically the types of photosets that are purchased by SG. These photosets give us insight into the girl's personality, which I love.
2. People/Community
What I didn't know when I joined was that there is a fantastic and diverse community of people from around the world and from every continent (including Antarctica). I've made some friends in Las Vegas where I live. I've made friends in other cities within the USA. And I've made friends in other countries. I've not had the pleasure to meet any of them face to face yet, but I am sure that someday I will meet some of them. Everyone seems genuinely supportive of each other and there is very little negativity present on SG (at least from what I've seen) that can be found on other social media platforms. What little negativity I have seen was warranted (the Why I Cheat group thread comes to mind specifically). I learn about other cultures, countries, cities, towns through the people on SG. I learn about different movies, TV shows, video games, music and more that I might not have thought about or considered.
1. You Do You
Ah, I've finally come to the title of my blog homework and, ultimately, the reason I wrote it. First a little backstory, then I'll explain the relevance.
Last Saturday (20 August) was my wife's birthday. I took her out to YOLOS, a Mexican restaurant inside Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino. After dinner we went to the Las Vegas Comedy Club at the V Theater in the Miracle Mile Shops adjoining Planet Hollywood. Throughout the show, which consisted of the host, the opening comic and the headliner, they each joked a little about "You Do You" except they joked about it like it was a negative thing. I can't remember any of the specific jokes, but the gist of them were the strange comments and responses people give to "normal" questions or circumstances. "Ok, you do you" is their comeback to those odd comments and responses. The jokes were funny, but they also gave me pause for thought.
I don't see "You Do You" as a negative thing. I see "You Do You" as a positive thing. To me it's being yourself. It's being who you are, who you want to be. It's being true to yourself. It's being authentic.
That's the #1 thing I love about Suicide Girls. It's a place where we can be ourselves. It's a place where we can be who we are and/or who we aspire to be. It's a place where we can be true to ourselves. It's a place where we can be authentic. It's a place where we can do that without fear of rejection, without fear of ridicule, without fear of hatred, without fear of judgement.
So, @missy and @rambo, the entire Suicide Girls staff, all of the Suicide Girls, Suicide Girl Hopefuls, Suicide Girl Photographers, Suicide Girl Photographer Hopefuls and Suicide Girl Members... Thank you for creating a place where You Do You is completely acceptable and highly encouraged.
Stay Tuned...
