I was online looking at old IBM Selectric II (w/correction) or Selectric III typewriters and damn are they expensive. I have a Brother now which works fine but lacks one important detail the old school typewriters had. The rollers clicked.
When I was in 7th grade I took typing on an IBM Selectric typewriter (by 8th grade computers moved in and became "keyboarding" class). The typewriters clicked as I rolled the paper up and down. It was a very useful feature because, if I needed to change something on a previous line, I knew how many clicks I had to go back to be on that line again. My Brother typewriter rolls smoothly so if I hit return by accident, I can't accurately go back to a previous line.
Some of you may be thinking "who uses a typewriter anymore?" I do, from time to time. When I write letters to people, it's fun to kick it oldschool with the typewriter occasionally. I even have reproduction Air Mail envelopes and I designed a stamp similar to the 1969 Air Mail stamp (there are sites that print custom postage stamps). It's fun to do but when I'm in school and working, letter writing tends to fall to the wayside.
In fact, I have a stack to write right now and I've been distracting myself. This round will be done on the PC mostly because I have so many little projects going on right now, I have no where to set up the typewriter.
