Ever played a game that you thought was going to be dull as all bloody bollocks but actually ended up being one of the most entertaining experiences you’ve ever had in gaming? Neither have I! However, this game does bring it pretty damned close.
For those of you who haven’t wondered, Viscera Cleanup Detail takes the age-old question you’ve always (never) asked when playing a nice and messy 3rd person shooter: Who’s the poor sod who needs to clean up after all this?
SPOILER ALERT! The answer is you. Armed with a mop, pails of water, trash bins, and incinerator, and a device that lets you sniff out the “yuck”, you get to clean a part of the space station that’s just seen a freak accident or action scene! Yay! Clean up duty!
What entertains me the most about this game is walking around seeing blood and gore smeared along the walls and wondering what the hell could have possibly caused this, to which you immediately search through your years of blasting in FPS games to come up with a likely scenario.
You need to be careful cleaning though. Your mop gets bloody and messy, and if you don’t wash it off, you’ll just be pushing around bloody. Similarly, the blood in your water buckets needs to be replaced or your mop won’t come clean. Walking through messes means you’ll track that mess all over your clean floor, and dropping anything on the floor means you’ll have a new mess to mop up (and trust me when I say the initial clean up is enough as it is).
The sense of dread that comes from finding one more door that leads to a gore-splattered room is horrible, as it tacks on at least another hour or two to your job, but once that job is done there’s nothing that can make you feel more accomplished… Except maybe cleaning your own place and not living in squalor… I should get on that.
Any who I've just been going absolutely nuts for this game and I figured I had to share it with anyone who would listen, which unfortunately means you wonderful people
Thank you as always for listening to my crazy rants you beautiful people you
