Remember remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason
Should ever be forgot...
Guy Fawkes was hot on that holiday episode of Daria.. remember that?
Onto the grim stuff though///

My fiance's Grandmother died last night. I've lived here with her for over a year, we became close over time and bonded over cooking, gardening and perfume. She sung in a women's choir for the past 30 years, and went to rehearsal every Wednesday, driving from Orange County to San Diego. She was awesome, and she could be a total bitch. But i loved her so much. So much.
None of us knew that she wasn't going to recover from the surgery. The doctors were flippant and acted as if the procedure was long but done all the time. When in fact, it is a hardcore highly specialized surgery that should only be done in hospitals that do more than 100 of them a year. They just told us it was a tumor removal, but they were actually doing a "Whipple" procedure. A procedure so detailed that surgeons fight over who gets to be present and do them. It was even parodied on Grey's Anatomy. This hotshot surgeon did this 13 hour surgery on a 77 year old woman with pancreatic cancer, one day after they diagnosed her. She already had delicate skin that would tear and bruise easily and she healed from everything very slowly. What made him think she would actually be able to heal from a butcher like surgery?? He didn't care, he just wanted to do the surgery. And afterwords, when she was in ICU not doing well, he kept telling the family that she was going to be fine, and told her not to make funeral arrangements that she would be around for a long time to come. This doctor was the only one we could get ahold of. There was alot of non communication between the hospital and the family. We would call, come down, wait and no one would tell us anything, except this surgeon who said she was looking up and doing much better.
According to the Cardiologist, the Respiratory Specialist Doctor, and her nurse... she had been dying since she came out of surgery. The prognosis had been grave right from the day after surgery. We were told that the surgeon had been so excited about executing such a complicated surgery that he wanted it to work so badly and he passed that on to us. When in fact, the prognosis for recovery was grave right from the start, 2 weeks ago. And we only were told that she was going to die 2 days ago. I knew she was not going to make it from the first moment I saw her after the surgery. She was semi alert, but her whole entire body had turned on her.
In summation, just over 2 weeks ago, she was an old lady who was having some pain and little appetite, alert and plucky. She remained this way for the entire 4 or 5 days in the hospital, gently medicated before the operation. Then some twat tried to repair delicate antique lace with a razor blade and a surger sewing machine. Surgeons need to stop this unnecessary risking of peoples lives for the thrill of the cut.
And now my mom's back surgeon wants to go back into her back which has had 6 spinal fusions and remove ALL the hardware he put in last year when he re-fused it , close her up, stick her in ICU for a day or two, then go back in, and put in all new hardware. It requires them to stop her heart. They go in the front and back, they move her organs outside her body. It takes 8-20 hours. Her fusion currently goes from above her ribcage to her tail bone. And did I mention she sleeps sometimes for 27 hours at a time already? That surgeon isn't going anywhere near my mother. Fuck this shit.
And fuck you to my foot surgeon who drives a yellow Ferrari and told me that he should "stab me" for letting his gorgeous work get infected and then yelled and accused me of doing something wrong, after he had left my stitches in for 34 days.
I just had to get that off my chest. Now i will return to sedating and or crying.
