Tonight I'm going to see The Strokes, the end of an arc that started in Japan before New Years. Yeah, I guess I missed their earlier hype, but it was not... miss-able in Tokyo. You would have thought that they were selling out arenas here in the States from all the video billboards, the play in every record shop, the ad vans zooming down the road blaring their music.
I suppose that's part of the marketing of pop culture anywhere aside from here. Convince the locals that its HUGE in the US. Either I bought the hype or I just liked that Peter Gunn bassline in Juicebox, but I got the new disc.
Now the show. It's the first of a month of concerts and djs, with the looming figure of TOOL shrouding all the ground around me, like a holy crow above me, black as holes within a memory and blue as our new second sun. (ok, I borrowed that).
