When I was I kid I hated coloring. I wanted to draw my own pictures, I wanted to make my own lines and color them in! So a few years ago I heard that coloring was really good for you, it's relaxing and puts your mind into the same rhythms as meditation. I am too much of a daydreamer to traditionally meditate so I always thought this would be a good thing to try. This year they really started coming out with Adult Coloring Books that are more intricate and interesting to adults. What really turned me on to these were that they started getting more and more psychedelic rather than stained glass looking. They reminded me of some of Zed's Dead music videos so I was even more intrigued. It wasn't until my husband finally asked for one for himself till I went and bought one. He hasn't really used it but I have now found myself coloring on my days off every day! I put on music or I'll just sit at the smoke lounge while everyone is talking and getting high and I'll do dabs and color in my book instead of look at my phone. Coloring really has been an anti-stress like they say, but I don't really know how to explain why it is anti-stress and what I notice is different when I'm not coloring. The one thing I have noticed is that the more elaborate coloring pages don't seem so intimidating now, so I think my brain is learning how to problem solve and look at the "big picture" differently so that it's not overwhelming. If you are interested in coloring I definitely suggest trying it! The coloring books aren't expensive, usually $7-15, and I just use regular Crayola pencils. Barnes and Noble has a surprisingly HUGE selection of adult coloring books and they have so many styles! Nature, geometry, animals, tattoo art, and they even designed a StarWars book so that the pictures are in calming coloring styles. I even saw one that is decorative swear words to color! I can't wait to buy my next book, but I want to do way more in this one first. I'll be sure to share! Anyone else trying adult/meditative/calming coloring?
