I am a big fan of horror movies. I even pay to see the bad ones, if only to let Hollywood know there are people who are out there that like this genre. Take my willingness to shell out my money for "The Last Exorcism", which had a great premise, and huge potential, and threw it all away for the sake of a PG-13 rating. I thought when I saw a girl leaving the theater in tears that this one might actually be good. Im starting to think that maybe that girl was crying because of how terrible the movie was.
There is hope on the horizon, however. "Case 39" is an original script, R Rated movie staring Renee Zellweger as a case worker hoping to save Jodelle Ferlands character from what she thinks is an abusive family. It turns out that this couldn't be any further from the truth. From the looks of the preview, the girl is being tormented by demons. Something tells me that this isn't entirely the case though. In some parts of the preview... the girl just looks far to calm.
Another movie that is promising to look good is "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" - a remake of a 1970's horror flick by the same name. I know what you're thinking - remakes almost always suck. I am hopeful for this movie for 2 reasons - they didn't dumb it down to shy away from the R Rating, and Guillermo del Toro is producing it. I really liked Pan's Labyrinth, so maybe I am a little biased. This is a story about someone who inherits a house with a terrible secret - and apparently that secret has lots of sharp teeth and kills people.
Hmm. So - I hope that these turn out well. If you know of any others I should keep my eyes on - let me know.
Oh, and friend me people! I am new here!
