Here I am singing at an L.A. Obama fundraiser with my friends Victoria Williams & Mark
Olson (from The Jayhawks--only like my favorite band ever..! Thank you God.)
And one I took of Victoria w/ world renowned sitar player Nishat Khan.

As promised, Baby pictures!
This is Baby, the coydog (I prefer "dogote"). (I know I previously introduced him
as Beau, but I quickly decided to change his name after realizing while high one night
that "Beau" sounds too much like "No" -- and since he's a pup & still learning, I decided
he should be "Baby" - he responds to those sounds better, and it's not confusing.
Found at my local shelter, I've had
him about a month now, and all signs point to him being a shepherd-coyote hybrid.
His existence is pretty special, because dogs and wild coyotes have different mating
seasons....so this illicit coupling only happens once on a blue moon!
Luckily, my Baby so far has the perfect blend of good dog traits, and in place
of certain annoying things dogs do (bark too much, get anxious in the car etc), it seems
his coyote traits take over instead-curling up in a quiet ball. He gets really spooked by
other dogs barking at him from other houses when we go for walks, but he's been
very well-behaved with all the dogs he's actually met and played with. And he ADORES
people and children (so that's probably where the shepherd takes over)! That's the
best part about him.

(It tastes like a cooked pie.....but with healthy, life-giving enzymes all intact!)


7 organic fuji apples
juice from 1/2 lemon
1/4 and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup dates, pitted
1/8 teaspoon lemon zest
1 raw pie...

RAW APPLE PIE RECIPE!!
(It tastes like a cooked pie.....but with healthy, life-giving enzymes all intact!)


7 organic fuji apples
juice from 1/2 lemon
1/4 and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup dates, pitted
1/8 teaspoon lemon zest
1 raw pie crust recipe (see below)

Chop 5 apples into tiny pieces. Pour the lemon juice and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon over them and dehydrate them on low for 2-3 hours. (If you don't have a dehydrator, just use your toaster oven & set it no higher than 100 degrees!)

While apples are dehydrating, make the "sauce".....
In a blender blend 2 finely chopped apples (add to the blender first), 1 cup dates, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1/8 teaspoon lemon zest to make an apple sauce. Mix the applesauce and the finished dehydrated apples in a bowl. Pour the mixture into the piecrust. Refrigerate for at least two hours.

Basic Almond Raw Pie Crust

1 and 1/2 cups raw almonds* (Note, you can substitute all kinds of nuts w/ good
results.....walnuts, brazil nuts, pecans, even sunflower seeds or a combination of any)
1 cup pitted dates
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1-2 teaspoon virgin coconut oil (optional)
1 vanilla bean seeds scooped out (optional)
dash of salt
(to make it less "basic" add ground cardamom, and whatever other spices you want! cocoa powder is nice too)

Process nuts in a food processor with the s blade until a coarse almond flour. (If you don't have a food processor you can easily make nut flour in your coffee grinder!!) Add the dates, coconut oil, and cinnamon to the food processor and process with the s blade until the mixture forms dough. (I don't have a food processor, so I simply grind nuts in coffee grinder, then use a fork to blend the other ingredients into them) Press the dough into a pie pan.

(We served it with pomegranate seeds on top, shown in picture )

P.s....I like to make a very generous amount of the pie crust so I have enough leftover to
add a top crust as well.
